MUSLIM DEMS CAUCUS
Our Story
The Muslim Caucus was officially chartered by the Nevada State Democratic Party in December 2021, marking an important milestone in ensuring that Muslim Nevadans have a recognized and respected place in the political landscape of our state.
Our mission is to educate, engage, and mobilize Muslim voters across Nevada. We work to provide our community with access to resources, information, and civic opportunities so every Muslim Nevadan can participate fully and confidently in the democratic process. Through outreach, community events, voter education, and coalition-building, we strive to ensure that our collective voice is heard and valued.
We are committed to uplifting leaders and supporting policies rooted in justice, compassion, equity, and dignity for all people. These are the values that guide our work and reflect the principles we hope to see represented in every level of government.
As a diverse and growing community, we believe in the power of unity and shared purpose. Together, we can strengthen civic engagement, support one another, and build lasting partnerships that benefit not only Muslim Nevadans but all who call our state home.
By standing together, we can uplift our ummah, empower our future generations, and contribute to a brighter, more inclusive future for our communities and our nation.

The mission of the Muslim Caucus of Nevada is to uplift and empower Muslim Nevadans through education, civic engagement, and community-building. We strive to increase voter participation, develop informed leadership, and strengthen representation at every level. Guided by the core values of justice, compassion, equity, and dignity, we work to ensure that the diverse voices and experiences of our ummah are recognized and included in Nevada’s democratic process..
Our Mission
AB 278 - Recognize Muslim American Heritage Month
This bill would require the Governor to annually proclaim several days of observance, including Diwali Day, Eid al-Fitr Day, Vaisakhi Day, and Vesak Day—holidays deeply meaningful to Nevada’s diverse communities. The legislation sought to honor and recognize the rich cultural and religious traditions that shape our state.
Muslim Caucus Chair Farrah Acheson worked collaboratively with Assemblyman Reuben D’Silva and numerous community leaders to help bring this legislation forward.
The bill advanced through multiple stages of the legislative process, including hearings, amendments, and strong community advocacy. It successfully passed both the Assembly and the Senate with broad support but was ultimately vetoed by Republican Governor Joe Lombardo.
